2017-11-28: Paul McCartney fã de Elbow? (Vídeo)

PM enviou um e-mail aos Elbow depois de ouvir uma das suas músicas na rádio:
http://www.radiox.co.uk/artists/elbow/guy-garvey-paul-mccartney-john-lewis-cover-fan/

Citando:
"The Elbow frontman has talked about whether The Beatles legend has heard their Beatles cover, and revealed why he made Macca's daughter Stella cry [Elbow recently covered The Beatles' Golden Slumbers for this year's John Lewis Christmas advert.]

But asked if Paul McCartney has heard their rendition yet, Guy Garvey told Radio X's Chris Moyles we wasn't sure, but revealed Macca is a bit of a fan.

Watch our video above to find out more.

The frontman explained: "We had an email from Paul McCartney last year about an Elbow song though, which is pretty much the best thing that's ever happened.

"He said he heard us performing Magnificent (She Says) on the radio when he was dropping one of his kids off, and he said he pulled over and waited till the end of song till he found out who it was."

He added with disbelief: "And then he thought to email us!" (...)"

Bar owner Nima Garous-Pour has been using the name for nearly 20 years in Hamburg, where the Beatles first found fame.

But lawyers for Yoko claimed that he had been using her name and identity without legal permission.

Judges at the city's regional court agreed - and ordered Garous-Pour to remove the sign, even though he had already shortened the name to simply 'Mono'."

2013-11-17: The story of Freda Kelly (by The Guardian)

... Beatles' secretary for around 10 years:
https://www.theguardian.com/music/2013/nov/17/beatles-secretary-freda-kelly-story

Citando:
""Paul, you could always rely on. He was the good one. George was very thoughtful – he would always say 'What have you got in your cupboard for me to sign?' Ritchie [Ringo, real name Richard] was always laughing. He was Mr Happy. John was a man of many moods. People think John Lennon was a big, hard man. He had his moments but there was a caring side to him."

By her own admission, Kelly was something of "an innocent" when she started working for the Beatles. "I was Miss Gullible. I was an Irish Catholic who went straight from the Girl Guides into the music business. I didn't know anything about anything."

It was Lennon who explained to her that her boss Epstein was gay – at the time, homosexuality was still illegal. "I remember saying to John: 'I can't make him out. There's something about him.' And he started laughing. He explained it to me in really simple terms. He said: 'Put it this way, if you and he were the last people on a desert island, you'd be safe.'""

2017-11-11: Tom Petty e o dia em que conheceu RS e GH

http://ultimateclassicrock.com/tom-petty-musicares-benefit/

Citando:
"Last night, Tom Petty was given the MusiCares Person of the Year Award at the organization’s annual benefit in Los Angeles. During his acceptance speech, he told a story about the night he met George Harrison and Ringo Starr, which ended up with him getting a lesson in paying your dues."
(...)
"You can watch the whole speech above, with this story beginning at the 7:40 mark. Petty recalled that he moved to Los Angeles in 1974, when he was signed to Leon Russell‘s Shelter Records by Denny Cordell. Shortly thereafter, he was hired by Russell to hang out at his home studio to provide lyrics in case the musicians came up with some worthwhile music.

“The first session, in comes George Harrison and Ringo, [legendary session drummer] Jim Keltner,” he began. “They didn’t need any words, but those cats were so cool, you know. And I found myself, after the session when we were hanging out, I found myself slipping my sunglasses on. Leon said, ‘What the hell are you doing with the dark glasses, man?’ I said, ‘It feels cool, you know, like Jimmy Keltner — he’s got his on."

"The Beatles – “The Continuing Story of Bungalow Bill”

This is an unusual one — the Spanish guitar introduction here is a bit from one of the early Mellotron accompaniment tapes. Prior to the M400, most Mellotrons had two manual keyboards — one for playing single notes, and one that triggered variously styled accompaniment patterns."

Knickers? Depois renomeado para Martha:
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-5071837/In-Paul-McCartney-s-arms-puppy-loved-much.html

Citando:
"It was written by Sir Paul McCartney as a paean to his English sheepdog.

But the Beatles’ 1968 song Martha My Dear might have ended up being called Knickers My Dear.

Two years earlier, the star had decided to fulfil his dream of owning a dog and contacted breeder Ann Davis.

Sir Paul, who was then dating Jane Asher, turned up in his Aston Martin DB6 at her home, where he posed with her sheepdog Cuddles before driving back to London with his new puppy, priced at ten guineas.

Paul McCartney pictured with his puppy and Ann Arch's sheepdog 'Cuddles' in the mid 1960's at her home in High Wycombe

A few weeks later, the breeder received a telephone call asking if she could look after the pup while the Fab Four were travelling abroad.

The great-grandmother said yesterday: ‘He was very attached to the puppy and he didn’t want to leave it with his housekeeper.’

But when the dog arrived at her home in High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire, she was in for a shock when she was told what the star had called it."

O vídeo ("pirata"):
https://youtu.be/qwn0qY2qY_s

Citando:
"For reasons he never quite articulated, Harrison left a fortune on the table and didn't agree to any more dates after Japan [12 dates]. The only exception was an April 6th, 1992 show at London's Royal Albert Hall, which was a benefit concert for the National Law Party days before the British General Election. Clapton wasn't around for this one, but he used many members of his touring band along with Mike Campbell of the Heartbreakers on lead guitar. Ringo Starr, Joe Walsh, Gary Moore and his son Dhani Harrison came out for the encores of "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" and "Roll Over Beethoven."

Harrison didn't let professional camera film the show, but here's decent amateur footage of "Something." Many fans felt it was vastly superior to the Japanese shows with Harrison in better vocal shape and seemingly a bit more relaxed. He largely disappeared for the rest of the decade, popping up only for the Beatles anthology project and to label Oasis "rubbish" after Liam Gallagher had the tenacity to call him a "fucking nipple.""
(...)
"The Royal Albert Hall marked the last time that George Harrison played a full concert, though months later he did play a handful of songs at Bob Dylan's 30th Anniversary Concert and in 1997 John Fugelsang cajoled him into playing "All Things Must Pass" and a few other tunes at a TV taping. He also played at song at Carl Perkins' funeral in 1998. Right around that time, he was diagnosed with throat cancer. He'd spend the remaining years of his life battling the disease while recording Brainwashed, his final album."

This was so he could use the pedals of his drum kit while performing on stage.

The sale has been organised by The Beatles Shop in Liverpool. Its owner estimates the boots will fetch up to £5,000 in the 26 August auction.

The size-seven boots were given to a family friend by Starr's mother and stepfather in the 1960s and have remained in his possession ever since."

It became the first solo single by a member of the iconic rock band to sell more than a million copies in America.

Ms Glover said the negatives and images taken from them would be on display at the attraction from November, before being auctioned in 2018.

She added that the valuation day had also uncovered a signed Beatles Christmas Show programme from a concert in Bradford in 1963, which was valued at £8,000, and a signed John Lennon postcard, which was estimated to be worth £5,000."

"“Rest in peace Fats Domino, the great rock ’n’ roll pianist and singer who thrilled us in our early days in Liverpool,” he writes. “His hit records like ‘Ain’t That A Shame’, ‘Blueberry Hill’, ‘I’m In Love Again’ and many others introduced us to the sounds of New Orleans rock ‘n’ roll. We were excited to meet Fats once in his home town of New Orleans. He was wearing a huge star spangled diamond encrusted watch which was our first encounter with bling! His voice, piano playing and musical style was a huge influence on us and his appearance in the film ‘The Girl Can’t Help It’ was truly magnificent. As one of my favourite rock ‘n’ roll singers, I will remember him fondly and always think of him with that twinkle in his eye. I read that he had eight children. He himself was named Antoine. His kids were named Antoine III, Anatole, Andre, Antonio, Antoinette, Andrea, Anola and Adonica. Now that is pure Fats!”"

2017-09-29: Cítara vendida em leilão por ~50K GBP

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-4935284/Sitar-played-George-Harrison-sells-47-000.html

Citando:
"In the Beatles Anthologies, he said: ‘We’d recorded the Norwegian Wood backing track and it needed something.

‘We would usually start looking through the cupboard to see if we could come up with something, a new sound, and I picked the sitar up - it was just lying around.

‘I hadn’t really figured out what to do with it. It was quite spontaneous: I found the notes that played the lick. It fitted and it worked.’

Norwegian Wood was recorded in October 1965, and has noted to kick-start the ‘Great Sitar Explosion’ in rock and roll.

However, this lead to Harrison generating his lifelong passion for Indian music and learning the sitar and growing his interest Hinduism and Indian culture, all occurring after the string broke on his personal instrument while recording.

He became the first Beatle to visit India and travelled to Mumbai to study the sitar with Ravi Shankar in 1966 following the band’s final live concert in San Francisco.

Over the next several months Harrison continued to play the sitar and decided to exchange his older-style ‘crummy-quality one’ with a more sophisticated style designed to play better into microphones.

It was a lifelong passion for the star, since his marriage to first wife Pattie Boyd in January 1966.

Harrison reportedly gave the sitar to Miss Boyd’s friend George Drummond who hosted them in Barbados for the wedding, while getting a better sitar flown to the island for him."

2017-09-15: Cítara de George Harrison vai a leilão

http://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-india-41276669

Citando:
"A sitar owned and played by George Harrison is going to be auctioned in the United States.

The instrument, purchased from a shop on London's Oxford Street in 1965, was used by Harrison during the recording of the Beatles song Norwegian Wood.

The Indian string instrument, crafted by a well-known music shop in Kolkata, was later gifted to a friend of Harrison's first wife, Patti Boyd.

Bidding for the sitar will begin on 28 September at $50,000 (£37,327).

Harrison had discovered the sitar in 1965, on the set of the Beatles' second film, Help.

His love affair with oriental mysticism first made itself known in Norwegian Wood, John Lennon's tale of an extra-marital fling. Acoustic guitar and muted bass were augmented by the Indian instrument."

1967-08-25: Beatles chegam a Bangor

http://www.bbc.com/news/uk-wales-41044309

Citando:
"It was not just the press who came - the fans flocked too.

The Beatles stayed in the Normal College, now the university's Management Centre.

Len Jones was one of the gardeners there at the time and said they caused quite a stir.

"I came here at eight o'clock in the morning to start work and there were hundreds of people here. They were singing and they were meditating," he had said previously .

"The Beatles came then, you couldn't move with hundreds of people, especially the girls. And they were all screaming 'Beeeeatles, where are yooooooouuu'?

"The whole college, everybody stopped work for a day or two. It was heaven and it really put Bangor on the map."

But The Beatles would not be in Bangor for long. They arrived on Friday - and on Sunday, the payphone rang in the corridor of the university halls where they were staying.

Eventually, someone answered the phone and Paul McCartney received the news that their manager Brian Epstein had been found dead."

2017-08-23: Documentário de 1982 sobre os Beatles?

http://www.rollingstone.com/music/features/the-compleat-beatles-10-takeaways-from-1982-fab-four-doc-w498816

Citando:
"But one Beatles doc you might not know – and its cause has not been helped by not having an authorized DVD release yet – is 1982's The Compleat Beatles, written by David Silver, directed by Patrick Montgomery, and narrated by Malcolm McDowell, chief droog from Stanley Kubrick's A Clockwork Orange. Clocking in at two hours – and titled in the spirit of The Compleat Angler, England's definitive book on fishing, from 1653 – The Compleat Beatles tells the band's entire story, from pre-fame days, with checkpoints at each album, right up through the breakup. It's brimming with keen musical analysis, and a coterie of voices you normally don't get with a Beatles documentary.

For a long time, in the VHS era, it was a staple of high-school music teachers, starting 35 years ago in the summer and fall of '82. If you were lucky enough to have had the TV set wheeled in by a Beatles-mad instructor, you know this is a special film."

2017-08-23: Telecaster de George Harrison (Limited Edition)

Por "apenas" 2499 USD:
https://www.premierguitar.com/articles/26196-fender-releases-limited-edition-george-harrison-rosewood-telecaster

Citando:
"The George Harrison Rosewood Telecaster is inspired by the guitar that Fender built specifically for him in 1968. As the brainchild of Fender luthier Roger Rossmeisl and the finished product of Philip Kubicki, the instrument instantly gained significance as it was the first all-rosewood guitar ever to be produced by Fender and was unveiled in the hands of the world’s most recognized guitarist. Harrison used the rosewood Telecaster while recording some of the most recognizable music of the late 1960s and famously played it during the historic London “Rooftop Concert” in January of 1969. Hand-crafted using the most up-to-date luthier techniques, this new edition is more accessible than the Fender Custom Shop’s George Harrison Tribute Rosewood Telecaster® released in 2016, and provides more fans with the opportunity to celebrate the iconic star."

2017-08-08: Carta aberta de John Lennon a Cynthia vai a leilão

Citação:
"The open letter to his ex-wife Cynthia was written in 1976 in response to claims in her first book about him

John Lennon disputed that Yoko Ono was to blame for the end of his first marriage in a newly discovered letter."
(...)
"The note was written in 1976 in response to excerpts from Powell’s book, A Twist Of Lennon, being published in the News Of The World, as Billboard reports. It is titled “An open letter to Cynthia Twist”, referring to her new name following her third marriage to John Twist.

“Dear Cynthia,” it began. “As you and I well know, our marriage was over long before the advent of L.S.D. or Yoko Ono… and that’s reality!

“Your memory is impaired to say the least. Your version of our first L.S.D. trip is rather vague, and you seem to have forgotten subsequent trips altogether!”"

2017-08-08: Mais sobre o Rolls de John Lennon

https://arstechnica.co.uk/cars/2017/08/picture-yourself-in-john-lennons-psychedelic-rolls/

Citando:
"Lennon had the Phantom V customized in true rock-star style. The rear seat was converted to a double bed, a television, telephone, and refrigerator were installed, along with a 'floating' record player and a custom sound system (which included an external loud hailer). Then, in April 1967, just as the recording of the game-changing Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band was finishing, Lennon asked Surrey coachbuilders, JP Fallon, to give the Phantom a new paint job. The freshly-painted Phantom was unveiled days before the worldwide release of Sgt. Pepper's on 1 June, and it seemed part of the overall concept of the album.

The new color scheme is often described as 'psychedelic' and certainly the colors, particularly the dominant yellow, reflected the cover of Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band. But look carefully and you will see it is no random swirl, but a floral Romany scroll design, as used on gypsy caravans and canal barges, with a zodiac symbol on the roof."

http://www.rollingstone.com/music/features/john-lennons-phantom-v-the-psychedelic-beatle-mobile-w494054

Citação:
""You swine! How dare you do that to a Rolls-Royce!" So screamed an outraged Englishwoman as John Lennon's Phantom V cruised past on London's posh Piccadilly promenade in the summer of 1967. The ornately decorated limousine, sprayed an electric yellow and bedecked with colorful floral tendrils, Romany scrolls and zodiac symbols like a hallucinatory gypsy caravan, so offended her sensibilities that she briefly attacked it with an umbrella – or at least that's the way Lennon always told the story."

2017-07-24: Última aparição de George Harrison na TV (VH1)

http://ultimateclassicrock.com/george-harrison-last-tv-interview/

Citando:
"When George Harrison stopped by to plug a new project for his old friend Ravi Shankar on July 24, 1997, it was almost as if he somehow knew this would be his last TV appearance. Sparked by an intuitive line of questioning by VH1’s John Fugelsang, Harrison turned expansive on his faith and what happens when we die.

Most of that, as you’d expect, was initially left on the cutting-room floor, as VH1 chose to focus instead on the musical portion of their conversation. Harrison was diagnosed with throat cancer later that year, and during the period before he died, the network reedited the former Beatles star’s segment to include his meditation on death.

VH1 then aired the expanded version on the day Harrison died, finally giving full voice to a remarkably deep conversation on the nature of death and salvation. Song performances included “Any Road,” a previously unheard number that later appeared on 2002’s Brainwashed; “If You Belonged to Me,” from the Traveling Wilburys‘ 1990 album, Vol. 3; and, most touchingly, the title track from All Things Must Pass."

http://ultimateclassicrock.com/john-lennon-mark-chapman-autographed-album/

Citando:
"One of rock’s more upsetting and morbid pieces of memorabilia is up for sale again.

The copy of John Lennon and Yoko Ono‘s 1980 album Double Fantasy that Lennon autographed for his assassin just hours before being murdered is being sold by its current owner, with the exchange being brokered by Moments in Time, the same agency that handled its previous sale. According to the New York Daily News, the asking price is $1.5 million.

“It’s the most incredible artifact in rock ‘n’ roll history. There’s no question,” Moments in Time owner Gary Ziamet told the paper. “I am delighted to have the opportunity to sell it once again.”

Discovered behind a planter box after Lennon’s murder and used as a key piece of evidence in the trial, the copy of the album includes police reports and the killer’s “forensically enhanced fingerprints” as well as Lennon’s autograph. Photos of the LP, along with further background information regarding its history, can be seen at the Moments in Time sale listing."

https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2017/jul/19/why-dont-we-do-it-in-the-road-the-beatles-sex

Citando:
"As McCartney explained when – understandably – interviewers wondered why anyone would ever write a song like that, perhaps there is something admirable in the straightforward way the monkey goes about its business. “That’s how simple the act of procreation is, that bloody monkey hopping on and hopping off,” he said. “Why Don’t We Do It In The Road? could have applied to either fucking or shitting, to put it roughly. Why don’t we do either of them in the road?”

Had someone failed to give him a satisfactory reason as to why both of those things were unacceptable, McCartney would presumably have cut a rather different figure in his old age, breathlessly making love and openly defecating on the M4. But we only have time to tackle the first of McCartney’s two gripes here, and it’s an important one: why aren’t more of us enthusiastically banging in the street?"

"Flashback: Inside John Lennon's Long History With Rolling Stone

John Lennon was the 'North Star' for 'Rolling Stone' since the magazine's earliest days, and his interviews in these pages made news around the world."
(...)
"A year later, Wenner heard record stores were selling Two Virgins in a plain brown wrapper, since Lennon and Ono appeared naked on the album's cover. Rolling Stone editor emeritus Ralph Gleason suggested the magazine contact Beatles publicist Derek Taylor and ask to see the images in full. "They said OK and sent it over," says Wenner. "It was as simple as that."

The cover – accompanied by an interview by Jonathan Cott – caused a national scandal. Featuring Lennon and Ono naked from behind (the full-frontal shots were inside), it hit newsstands on November 23rd, 1968. A New Jersey postmaster general stopped issues from going to East Coast subscribers. One San Francisco newsstand employee was arrested for selling obscene material. (nude beat-le perils s.f., declared a San Francisco Chronicle headline soon after.) Wenner was exuberant. "The point is this," he wrote in the next issue. "Print a famous foreskin and the world will beat a path to your door.""

Artigo da Time sobre os 75 anos de PM. E na capa da Life (foto no artigo abaixo):

Paul McCartney: Legendary Beatles Member Turns 75 | Time.com

Citando:

"There’s a curious sensation to realizing that Paul McCartney — the lad of lads, the Beatles precocious imp, Fab Macca Wacky Thumbs Aloft — is turning 75 years old. Though it may be odder still to imagine a world without him. For more than 50 of those years he has not been simply Paul McCartney (or, since 1997, Sir Paul) but a Beatle, a known phenomenon in all hemispheres, a star of absurd magnitude, and, soon after, a man of absurd wealth. The Beatles last played before a paying audience in 1966. The band recorded together for the final time in ’69.

And for everything that McCartney has accomplished since — the 12 Grammy nominations; the six No. 1 hits with the Wings in the 1970s; the platinum chart-toppers with Michael Jackson and Stevie Wonder in the 1980s; the jaunt into classical composition; performing at Buckingham Palace; his 2015 recording (hey there, kids) with Kanye and Rihanna — a Beatle he will always be, defined by those prolific, god-given, glorious years of the Fab Four’s prime. Paul wrote “Yesterday” when he was 22."

2017-06-18: Steve Howe e a altura do Sgt. Pepper's

http://somethingelsereviews.com/2017/06/15/tomorrow-beatles-steve-howe/

Citando:
"That is the approach I took when talking with Steve about Tomorrow. The link below navigates to the conversation that I conducted for the two Tomorrow releases, including an introduction of each of those albums. At the time, it struck me how the songs on Tomorrow’s only studio album from 1967 mirrored some of the concepts from Sgt. Pepper’s, and I discussed that with Steve. In addition, there is information about the direct interaction between the two bands. (One point of interest that didn’t come up: Beatles engineer Geoff Emerick also contributed his talents to the Tomorrow production.)

Overall, the content is a companion piece of sorts to the era that is described in the book from the Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band box set. This conversation may appeal to those interested in Tomorrow even without having read the box set’s book.

There have been some minor edits made to the original posting that the reader won’t miss, like fixing run-on sentences that at the time I was reluctant to eliminate in an effort to preserve each and every word Steve said. But there is one new set of additions that I felt would be largely beneficial, and that is the inclusion of YouTube videos to help provide some context to Steve Howe’s comments. These appear as embedded windows, and as links within the text."

http://ultimateclassicrock.com/paul-mccartney-stevie-wonder-ebony-and-ivory/

Citando:
"The song in question, “Ebony and Ivory,” was demoed in late 1980 and developed during the sessions for McCartney’s third solo album, 1982’s Tug of War. With lyrics using the piano as a metaphor for ideal race relations, the song seemed like a natural for the duet treatment — and McCartney immediately knew who he wanted for a partner. “I wanted to sing it with a black guy,” he later recalled. “And my first thought was Stevie.”

Phoned by McCartney, Wonder quickly agreed. “I listened to the song, and I liked it very much,” said Wonder. “I felt it was positive for everybody. I won’t say it demanded of people to reflect upon it, but it politely asks the people to reflect upon life in using the terms of music … this melting pot of many different people.”

The duo convened at AIR Studios in Montserrat under the guidance of producer George Martin, who helmed the Tug of War sessions, and cut a pair of duets for the record — “What’s That You’re Doing?” and “Ebony and Ivory,” which would make its way to radio in late March as the album’s lead single. (Though McCartney and Wonder recorded in person, their schedules kept them from filming the “Ebony and Ivory” video together — they had to be spliced into the frame via editing magic.)"

2017-06-01: Sgt.

http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/review/was-fifty-years-today-beatles-sgt-pepper-beyond-review-1003725

Citando:
"In  fairness, It Was Fifty Years Ago Today! is not wholly devoid of interest, especially for forensic Fab Four fans. Lengthy archive newsreel clips give an intriguing sense of life inside the Beatlemania bubble just as the band were in transition from moptop pop minstrels to planet-shaking rock aristocrats. The chapter on Epstein's death also has a pleasing journalistic rigor that is lacking elsewhere. Yanked out of a meditation retreat with the Maharishi Mahesh Yogi to hear the news, Lennon's shell-shocked reaction still feels raw five decades later. "There's no such thing as death anyway," George Harrison argues. "There's death on a physical level, but life goes on everywhere."

More earthly insights into Epstein's death come in a contemporary interview with Simon Napier-Bell, a budding pop impresario in Sixties London who later went on to manage Wham! and many other artists. After spurning repeated sexual advances from Epstein, Napier-Bell came home from a weekend in Dublin to find several bleary messages that the tormented Beatles manager had left on his prototype answerphone machine the very night he died. "I did the stupid, British, correct thing and immediately erased the tape," Napier-Bell says ruefully.

In visual terms, Parker tries to compensate for a dearth of fresh Beatles material with small stylistic flourishes. Trippy animated credits invoke the surreal look of Yellow Submarine (...)"

2017-05-12: Filmagens durante o filme Help! aparecem

https://www.theguardian.com/music/2017/may/12/unseen-footage-of-the-beatles-during-filming-of-help-emerges-after-50-years

Citando:
"Unseen footage of the Beatles larking around as they filmed a movie in the Austrian Alps has emerged after being stored in a garage for more than 50 years.

The footage, entitled Snow Scenes, was taken by the late actor Leo McKern, best known as Rumpole of the Bailey on ITV between 1978-92.

In 1965, McKern was in the Richard Lester-directed film Help! along with the Beatles, playing a cult supervillain called Clang who is after the ring on Ringo’s finger.

A keen amateur photographer and filmmaker, McKern caught the Beatles relaxed and off guard as they prepared to film scenes in the ski resort of Obertauern.

“It is unseen footage of people who were, at that time, the most famous people on earth,” said the actor Neil Pearson, who is also a rare books dealer. “It is footage of golden age Beatles, fooling around between takes, waiting for something to happen ... I know that feeling.”"

2017-05-02: Rascunho da capa de Sgt. Pepper's por JL vai a leilão

http://nerdist.com/john-lennon-sketch-beatles-sgt-peppers-album-cover-auction/

Citando:
"The auction site notes that “it is unknown how this undated drawing figures into the history of the album cover and Lennon’s involvement.” That said, this drawing does look a lot like what the final album art ended up as, so perhaps this was a final stage of the band deciding on the layout with each other, or perhaps he was just quickly showing a confidante what his band’s next album would look like. Whatever the case, the illustration was found in a sketchbook by the owners of Lennon’s former home in Surrey, England, and it’s a pretty neat piece of newly discovered music history."

Paul McCartney Sgt. Pepper Exclusive: “It Was A Risk!” | MOJO

Paul McCartney Sgt. Pepper Exclusive: “It Was A Risk!” | MOJO

Citando:

"PAUL McCARTNEY HELPS MOJO celebrate 50 years of the Beatles’ Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band with an exclusive interview in the magazine that hits UK shops on Tuesday, April 25. He recalls the circumstances surrounding the group’s most groundbreaking album and gives his verdict on the new stereo mix designed to add legs to one of popular music’s key benchmarks.

(...) How dare Beatles band go all weird?

“We were always being told, ‘You’re gonna lose all your fans with this one.’” McCartney tells MOJO. “And we’d say, ‘Well, we’ll lose some but we’ll gain some.’ We’ve gotta advance.”

In 1967 The Beatles ran the gauntlet of a media gripped in a moral panic over the younger generation’s embrace of drugs, and others who regarded Pepper’s stylistic smorgasbord and hints of thematic coherence as evincing ideas above the group’s station. The Lovable Moptops stereotype died hard.

“We were always being told, ‘You’re gonna lose all your fans with this one.’”

“Sgt. Pepper did actually get a terrible review in the New York Times,” recalls McCartney. “The critic [Richard Goldstein] said he hated it, thought it was a terrible mess, and then he was on the streets all week and heard the talk, heard what people were saying, and he took it back [in a subsequent Village Voice piece], recanted after a week: ‘Er… maybe it’s not so bad.’ But we were used to that. She Loves You was ‘banal’. But if we liked it and thought it was cool, we would go for it.

“…I mean, George doing Within You Without You,” continues McCartney, “a completely Indian record – it was nothing anyone had heard before, at least in this context. It was a risk, and we were aware of that.”

But even given Sgt. Pepper’s subsequent rise to peerless status, there’s one aspect of the record that has consistently drawn flak, even (perhaps especially) from fans.

(...) “The original stereo mix is a bit of a period piece,” McCartney concedes. “You’ve got the drums in one corner. You’ve got the vocals in another corner. We would be at listening parties, have some mates around and I’d go, ‘Listen to the drums on this, man!’ …and you couldn’t hear ’em. Oh! They’re over there in the other corner of the room.”

That’s been addressed in the reissue of Sgt. Pepper that’s due on the streets on May 26. A muscular new Giles Martin stereo mix returns the Beatles’ drums and vocals to central positions reminiscent of the original mono mix, and gets McCartney’s seal of approval.

“‘Muscular’ is a good word,” he agrees. “It sounds more like us playing in the room and more like we intended it.”"

2009-09-06: A história (e a capa de um dos discos) de Penina

A canção oferecida por PM aos Jotta Herre e também gravada por Carlos Mendes no Hotel Penina:
https://www.google.pt/amp/www.dn.pt/gente/interior/amp/a-cancao-que-nasceu-num-bar-de-hotel-1354450.html

Citando:

http://www.rollingstone.com/music/news/inside-unheard-sgt-pepper-outtakes-exclusive-first-listen-w476067

Citando:

"The box has alternate takes of each song — in some cases drastically different and all offering revelatory insights into the most legendary of rock masterpieces. It's the first time the Beatles have opened their vaults and released new recordings since Anthology.

The new remix has long been craved by hardcore Beatle heads, who have always complained about the diffuse stereo mix. The mono version was the one George Martin, engineer Geoff Emerick and the band spent weeks mixing — but the stereo version was rushed out without the Beatles even there in the room. "They were trying to create this immersive world that the stereo didn't have," Giles Martin says now. "Nobody paid much attention to the stereo mix. What we did was work out what they were doing in the mono mix and apply it to stereo."

No matter how well you know the album, this remix is full of nuances any fan will notice, especially the bottom end —Ringo’s kick drum really reveals new dimensions. It's a tribute to the band and their producer."

2017-04-16: Beatles no Alasca?

Sim, aparentemente estiveram lá duas vezes:

Citando:
"The reason the band landed in Anchorage on June 27, 1966, varies depending on whom you ask. According to some, the jet, which was heading to Japan, stopped in Alaska to dodge a typhoon. Others say it was a planned refueling stop extended because of mechanical problems.

A brief history of the Beatles' (brief) time in Alaska:
https://www.adn.com/culture/article/brief-history-beatles-brief-time-alaska/2014/07/06/

The Beatles were wrapping up their last tour ever and were reportedly irritable and bored during their brief stay at the former Anchorage Westward Hotel, now the Hilton."

E um guião à espera de financiamento para se tornar num filme sobre esse dia em que as mães das adolescentes as fecharam em casa para não irem ter com os Beatles:

Citando:
"In her screenplay "Revolver," Kate Trefry captures an extraordinary day in the life of Anchorage.

"It's based on my mom and her friends' experience when the Beatles landed in Anchorage in 1966," said Trefry, 30, who is from Anchorage. "My mom was 13, so my grandma locked her in the house like a lot of moms did. But a few of her friends escaped and went to the hotel where the Beatles were staying and actually got to the floor where their room was, but didn't see them.""
(...)
"As for "Revolver," the Fab Four's unannounced Anchorage visit provided Trefry with plenty of material both real and imagined."

2017-04-14: A história de "In Spite of All Danger"

Uma canção McCartney-Harrison (autoria que nunca se iria repetir mais) e que pode ser ouvida no Anthology 1:
http://somethingelsereviews.com/2017/04/14/beatles-in-spite-of-all-the-danger/

Citando:
"Today, critics often dismiss “In Spite of All the Danger,” with Unterberger calling it “not that much” and “a routine doo wop-like early rock ‘n’ roll ballad.” In his review of Anthology 1Mojo‘s Mat Snow writes that the song “gives no inkling of the band who would cut ‘Love Me Do’, never mind ‘A Day In The Life.'”

Clearly, McCartney retains affection for the track: He occasionally performs it livein concert, particularly during his 2005 world tour and the television special Chaos and Creation at Abbey Road.

Just four years after the primitive recording of “In Spite of All the Danger,” the renamed Beatles would record “Love Me Do” at Abbey Road Studios and launch their career. Their artistic growth developed rapidly, and this 1958 song is a baby step in their journey."

2017-04-07: Inside the Beatles’ Lost ‘Sgt. Pepper’-Era Track ‘Carnival of Light’

Inside the Beatles’ Lost ‘Sgt. Pepper’-Era Track ‘Carnival of Light’

Citando:
"But there’s one track recorded during the Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band sessions that’s a holy grail of sorts for fans: an experimental piece from early 1967 called “Carnival of Light,” which can be thought of as a precursor to the White Album‘s “Revolution 9.” (There were rumors that the song would finally get an official release on Sgt. Pepper‘s expanded reissue, but it didn’t show up there.)

The song was created for two events that were being held at London’s Roundhouse Theatre on Jan. 28 and Feb. 4 that was alternately known as both the Million Volt Light and Sound Rave or the Carnival of Light Rave. David Vaughan, who was promoting the happenings, asked Paul McCartney to contribute some music, and the Beatle agreed. On Jan. 5, 1967, during a break in the sessions for “Penny Lane,” they created “Carnival of Light.”

In November 2008, McCartney told the BBC what his instructions to the other three Beatles were. “I said all I want you to do is just wander around all the stuff, bang it, shout, play it, it doesn’t need to make any sense,” he said. “Hit a drum then wander on to the piano, hit a few notes, just wander around. So that’s what we did and then put a bit of an echo on it. It’s very free.”"
