1969: What did Beatles said when George left?

After the "See you around the clubs" famous not last quote.
There's a book with all those details as well as saying what Paul McCartney said about Yoko on meetings. Civilized.

Quoting:
"An upcoming Beatles biography by John Harris – titled Get Back, which details The Beatles' final few quarrelsome days as a band – has revealed private conversations between Paul McCartney, John Lennon and Yoko Ono following George Harrison's five day leave from the group in 1969.

The book is being released to coincide with the release of Peter Jackson's docuseries of the same name.

Harris, who was handed hundreds of hours of recordings as part of the project, has waded through the content to untangle what really happened during the band's unseen moments. Now, he has shared the story of what really went down when Harrison temporarily walked out of the band on January 10 in 1969 after a difficult morning of butting-heads while working on the tracks Get Back and Two Of Us – when the guitarist apparently quit by simply stating "see you around the clubs". 2021-01: James Taylor biography and Beatles mentions

James Taylor escreveu a sua biografia e refere os Beatles que o contrataram para a Apple e tocaram no primeiro disco dele, a audição com George e Paul e o empréstimo da frase "Something in the way she moves" que ele sempre considerou acidental:
https://www.wsj.com/articles/james-taylor-looks-back-on-his-early-years-11611334730
Citando:
"“I stopped the story with the release of ‘Sweet Baby James’ because at that point, I become a public person and said everything worth saying,” says Mr. Taylor on the phone from a recent Montana ski trip. “I was on the cover of Time magazine in 1971 and became sort of an open book.”

Mr. Taylor has had a seismic cultural impact. His manager says that he has sold 100 million albums. Taylor Swift was named after him, as she announced from the stage of Madison Square Garden in 2011 when Mr. Taylor joined her to sing “Fire and Rain.” In addition to his own songs, Mr. Taylor has excelled as an interpreter, notching hits with covers including Carole King’s “You’ve Got a Friend” and “How Sweet It Is (To Be Loved by You),” which was written by the Motown team of Lamont Dozier, Brian Holland and Eddie Holland."

2020-09: O livro do Beatles novo

Juntamente com o filme, foi anunciado um livro com fotos inéditas das sessões dos Beatles para o filme Ler it Be. Algo que já não acontecia há décadas desde o Anthology:
https://www.theguardian.com/music/2020/sep/16/the-beatles-announce-get-back-first-official-book-in-20-years
Video promocional no YouTube:
https://youtu.be/ZM__OJUFzIQ

Citando:
"The first official Beatles book since seminal Anthology in 2000 is to be published in August 2021.

The Beatles: Get Back will tell the story of the final Beatles album, Let It Be, drawn from over 120 hours of transcribed conversations from the band’s studio sessions. It will accompany Peter Jackson’s feature documentary of the same name, also set for release that month.

The book documents January 1969, with friction building in the band as they recorded music for an intended TV special – George Harrison walked out of the sessions at one point and John Lennon described them as “hell”. The music they made, though, would be among the most poignant in their catalogue, and the sessions built towards the group’s final live performance, on top of the Apple Corps building in London on 30 January 1969.

The songs they recorded were later mixed (including with controversial input from Phil Spector) and eventually released in May 1970 as Let It Be, instead of the original title Get Back. It followed the recording and release of Abbey Road in September 1969, and was released a month after Paul McCartney’s departure precipitated the band’s split."

2015: A for Apple book?

Um livro "recente" sobre a Apple que esgotou rapidamente. Primeira edição:
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Apple-Illustrated-History-multimedia-corporation/dp/3000478337

Quoting:
"Volume 1 of a is for apple was released in April 2015 to worldwide acclaim; all copies of the book sold out within a month and are now sought-after collector’s items which fetch high prices on the second-hand market. Ever since, people have been asking for a reprint of Volume 1. Well, we are glad to announce we will be offering a very limited number of reprints of this book, so if you missed out on Volume 1, this is your chance to grab a copy. Originally, Volume 1 came with a two-sided disc with two previously unheard Jackie Lomax demos, but due to agreements we had with Jackie, a reprint of that single is no longer an option. Instead, we are proud to be able to offer two previously unreleased Apple recordings on a vinyl single with the reprint, one of which is an Apple published song by Miles and Robert Priestley (who are also featured on one of RPM’s great Apple published acts compilations, 94 Baker Street Revisited), while the B-side is a version of Ev'rything's Al'right by the Mojos performed by an unknown group and found on an Apple acetate. Of course we will give the buyers of the original Volume 1 the opportunity to buy this single as well."

2019-12-01: Crowded House, The Beatles, and the making of a melody [ARTICLE, BOOK]

Um artigo baseado no livro "The Song Remains the Same" recentemente saído e que deve estar repleto de referências aos Beatles, naturalmente:
https://www.theguardian.com/music/2019/dec/01/dont-dream-its-over-crowded-house-the-beatles-and-the-making-of-a-melody

Citando:
"“There is freedom within, there is freedom without
Try to catch the deluge in a paper cup …”
According to Neil Finn, you can’t put a “paper cup” in a song without it being a reference to John Lennon. So why not go the whole hog? In the Beatles’ Across the Universe, it’s words that are flowing ‘like endless rain into a paper cup’. Finn’s cup is attempting to contain a veritable flood.
The Beatles were such a monumental force in pop music that for a decade after their disbanding, other musical acts seemed consciously to avoid their influence. In Split Enz, however, New Zealand’s Finn brothers, Tim and Neil, embraced it wholeheartedly (this was long before 1990s Britpop, when everyone was at it), and the influence carried over to Neil’s Australian band, Crowded House. In general, perhaps too much has been made of the Beatles–Crowded House connection, but it’s there for all to hear in Don’t Dream It’s Over, where the narrow melody of the verse, all stepwise intervals, might easily have been written by Lennon. There is, however, nothing of Lennon in the famous chorus."

2018-12: Como Yoko perseguiu

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-6460947/How-Yoko-Ono-relentlessly-pursued-John-Lennon.html

Citando:
"John Lennon became mesmerized by Yoko Ono after she set her sights on him, writes author Ray Connolly in new book  Being John Lennon: A Restless Life

Yoko was aggressive, constantly badgering John with letters and appearing at places he was

Yoko broke into 'the orbit of the Beatles' after meeting John at the Indica Gallery in London, where she was preparing for a show the next day

'From the very beginning of her career, she understood the power of networking and self-promotion; especially self-promotion,' according to Connolly

John 'felt that she was the star and he the audience', never had he met anyone like this 'odd little Japanese woman dressed in her black intellectual's uniform'

Yoko was writing letters to John, getting under his skin and was everywhere he was, even showing up at a meeting with a yogi in the Indian Himalayas

Yoko and John became inseparable and he insisted Yoko be at all sessions - inhibiting to the other Beatles and driving a wedge between John and Paul

Their relationship became strained by 1972 and Yoko decided to get John a mistress - May Pang, 22, a Chinese girl who had been working for the couple"

2018-08: Livro de Womack fala de amuo de George Martin

... durante as gravações do White AlbumGeorge Martin Was ‘Frozen Out’ of Beatles’ White Album Sessions

Citando:
"Womack said he’d spoken to sound engineers and tape operators for his book Sound Pictures: The Life of Beatles Producer George Martin, the Later Years, 1966–2016. “I asked them what George was doing when John [Lennon] was playing a particular guitar part or when Ringo [Starr] was working on some drum part,” Womack told the Guardian. “They would say, ‘Nothing, he was in the back of the booth, reading newspapers, sharing his chocolate with us.’ He was on a kind of a chocolate-and-newspaper strike.”

The author said that, along with the Epstein tragedy, the falling-out “also had a lot to do with a Time magazine article in 1967 where George was credited with being this wunderkind and the mastermind behind Sgt Pepper. “They didn’t take very well to that and let him know,” Womack added. “I do think this was the beginning of this struggle over ‘Who’s the genius behind the Beatles?’ This was payback for taking credit for the Beatles myth. … But they coaxed him back for Abbey Road [in 1969].”

1966 até se ter reformado (segunda parte da história já contada noutro livro desde 1926). 2018-07: Julian Lennon, o pai e um livro

Baseado numa premonição do pai (in PT):
https://www.dn.pt/cultura/interior/premonicao-de-john-lennon-inspira-livro-infantil-ao-filho--9621395.html

Citando:

https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/whats-on/theatre-news/lennons-banjo-show-swift-need-14589767

"It wasn’t terrible, there’s a fascinating story at its heart and it has the potential to be a great caper.

But somebody needs to take a big red pen to the script of Lennon’s Banjo before it can become a staple of the city’s extra curricular Beatles offerings - and soon.

Based on the book Julia’s Banjo, this deals with the much sought-after instrument once owned by John Lennon’s mother, the one she used to teach her son the wonders that be unlocked from finding the right chords. A good job she did too. It’s still out there somewhere and worth millions to the finder."

2018-04-04: Livro de Derek Taylor "As Times Goes By" reeditado

https://www.theguardian.com/books/2018/apr/04/as-time-goes-by-derek-taylor-beatles-review

Citando:
"“Spring is here and Leeds play Chelsea tomorrow and Ringo and George and John and Paul are alive and well and full of hope. The world is still spinning and so are we and so are you. When the spinning stops – that’ll be the time to worry. Not before.” So ran the press release that announced the end of the Beatles on 11 April 1970, some time after they had actually broken up. It was written by Derek Taylor, a loquacious native of the Wirral who had served as their press officer in 1964, and again from 1968 until the end, when he headed the press department of Apple, their record company and doomed experiment in “western communism” .

Alongside their manager Brian Epstein and producer George Martin, Taylor – who was born in 1932 and died in 1997 – was one of the group’s inner circle whose comparatively advanced years and very English urbanity added to the sense that, however exotic their outward appearance, the Beatles kept one collective foot in a world of tea, biscuits and impeccable manners. He was working for the Daily Express when he and his wife Joan first saw the band, on a UK tour shared with Roy Orbison in 1963. “Though maybe at the ‘wrong’ end of that generation,” he later wrote, “we were nevertheless open thereafter to the possibilities of being truly young in heart.”"
